The following is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that you might have regarding the use of this CD-ROM.

When I try to play one of the messages, it plays but I don't hear anything.

For this situation there are many possible problems.

  1. Do you have a sound card? If not, you will need to have one installed.
  2. Do you have speakers that are plugged in and turned on? Check all wiring and power supply.
  3. Is your sound muted? Double click on the speaker icon in the lower right hand corner (for Windows) and check to make sure that nothing is muted.
  4. Is RealPlayer volume on and not muted? Open the Real Player and check to make sure the volume is up and that the audio is not muted.
  5. Is your CD-ROM working? Try inserting a music CD. If this works, you may have a problem with the RealPlayer software. Click the "Software" link on the left and reinstall the RealPlayer software.

Can I search this CD for all Years or by the Author?

When I insert the CD-ROM, it does not start automatically.

Windows:

Go to Start, Programs, Windows Explorer. Select the drive letter that corresponds to your CD-ROM. Double-click on the file readme.txt for instructions on how to turn on the auto-insert feature.

    Windows 95/98: Do you have the CD-ROM Auto insert turned on? To turn it on click:

    1. Start / Settings
    2. Control Panel
    3. System
    4. Device Manager
    5. Click the "+" next to CD-ROM
    6. Click on your CD-ROM (to highlight it)
    7. Properties
    8. Settings
    9. Check the box "Auto insert notification"
    10. Click OK

Macintosh:

The CD should automatically open a window containing the **Start Here*** script and lauch the homepage. If not, double click the CD to open it. Then double click the file "macstart" and the browser should automatically launch and open the homepage. If this does not fix your problem read the next question below.

When I double click on index.htm, there is a long pause and a window opens that says, "Can not find the application that created the document name "INDEX.HTM".

This is normal. Just click cancel. You will be able to successfully open the index.htm file from within your browser application. Launch your browser and go to the menu File/OpenFile (Internet Explorer Only) and navigate to the desktop. Highlight the appropriate CD and click open. Locate and highlight the index.htm file and click open. The browser should open the homepage.

When I click on one of the message links, I get an error message instead of the audio I wanted.

Make sure the appropriate CD-ROM is properly inserted in the drive. Also, make sure that you have RealPlayer software installed. If you need to install any software, click on the "Software" link located on the first CD).

When I click on a link to a message, a window opens that says "open with" At the top.

Do you have the Browser software installed? To install the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, insert CD #1 and open the folder software/mac. Double click the "Internet Explorer 5.smi" file. A disk will mount on the desktop. Open the disk and drag the contents to your hard drive.
